Dieting: Our Cup of Tea – DailyBeauty

August 10th, 2011

A study conducted by scientists at the University of Tokushima School of Medicine in Japan revealed that those who drank oolong tea on a regular basis burned twice as many calories as those who just drank green tea.

More good news about tea! I’m a huge fan of green tea and use it as a pore minimizers. And I drink white tea every day. Had no idea oolong tea was so good for weight loss, though. Check out the rest of the story at the excellent Daily Beauty blog.

The Best Pore Minimizer For Dry Skin – Gaelle Organic

August 9th, 2011
The truth about pore minimizers

There are many kinds of pore minimizers, but they all have one thing in common: their effect is temporary. For example, lemons and red wine are astringents. They make your mouth pucker up – but only for a while. It is the same with astringents that make pores smaller. They work – but only for a while. So if you want your pores to be small all the time, you will need to use a pore minimizer every day.

That’s why you need to be careful about the pore minimizer that you use – you are going to be using it a lot! This post lists the 9 best pore minimizers for dry skin, how to use them, and what results to expect from them. Check it out at the above link.

The Fragrance Foundation forms ‘indie’ fragrance committee

August 8th, 2011

The Fragrance Foundation has announced it is to form a new committee dedicated to developing the recognition of ‘indie’ fragrance brands and their creators.

Do you use products containing “fragrances.” The tricky thing about them is that manufacturers get a pass on listing the ingredients they use in their fragrances, on the grounds that they are proprietary. This gives rise to the suspicion that all the nasty ingredients in their products that they don’t want consumers to know about get included under this “fragrance” umbrella. I can understand that manufacturers want to protect their trade secrets. And I also appreciate that transparency is vital, these days, given the general movement away from blind faith in science-in-the-cause-of corporate-interests. So what to do? Personally, I do not use any skin care products that contain “fragrances.” Maybe the industry can come up with a more consumer-friendly way to handle this issue?

FAQ’s About Natural Soap | The Natural Bar Soap Company

August 5th, 2011

When we blend our lye solution with oils, we get soap and glycerin. In other words, the glycerin is created in the process. Glycerin is one of the best natural moisturizers for your skin. It is the glycerin component of natural soap that makes it so wonderful!  Your skin will be naturally moisturized, rather than slathered with synthetic, drying, petroleum based moisturizers.

Interested in soap? Your cleanser can make a huge difference to the state of your skin, especially if you have extra dry skin. It is one of the first things to look at in improving your complexion. Check out the rest of the post at BarSoapNatural.com. It’s a fun site, too.

Vinegar Facial Toner | The Purposed Heart

August 5th, 2011

Did you know that you can use vinegar as a facial toner?  It is 100% natural, very frugal, and it works great!  I have been using a solution of 1 part of my lavender vinegar to 1 part water on my face every night before I go to bed, and I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin’s appearance!  It has evened out my skin tone, minimized the size of my pores, smoothed out my skin’s texture, and regulated my skin’s oil production.  I love it!

GOod idea to add lavender to the apple cider vinegar! Not everyone can tolerate lavender, but you could experiment with different scents to mask the vinegar smell. It is definitely a pore minimizer you can rely on, a really good natural stringent. Check out the rest of the post at the above link to learn the proportions to use, how to apply it, and what results to expect. It’s all good!I

In Case You Have Big Pores, Pore Minimizing Products Happen To Be The Only Option

August 5th, 2011

Your skin is not made to endure harsh chemicals, and even though they may be in a position to clean your pores by simply dissolving whatever it is that’s clogging them, what else are these chemicals doing to your skin and also the rest of your body.

Fortunately, there are pore minimizers you can rely on that do not contain harsh chemicals. Hydrosols like witch hazel and rose water are the best natural astringents for everyday use, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin. It is important to make sure they do not contain any alcohol – a common ingredient in witch hazel extracts – as it is too drying.

gulfnews : How to get the most out of a toner

August 4th, 2011

It’s strange that despite the Three-phase CTM routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising reiterated by skincare experts time and again, one of the products that is invariably absent from many women’s vanity kits is a toner. In fact many women consider it to be an unnecessary extra step. But contrary to all such notions, the use of the right toner (based on your skin type) can help you maintain a healthy, vibrant and clear skin.

Here is a useful article about the use of facial toners I use a toner twice a day – wouldn’t be without it. The article will tell you why, and how to chose a toner for your skin type. I do not recommend toners that contain alcohol, however. Even if you have oily skin, alcohol is too harsh to put onto your face routinely. And for those of us with dry skin, it is far too drying. Check out the article for more information about why toning is such a good idea.

5 Benefits of a Clay Facial Mask « abodycandle.com

August 4th, 2011

Who could pass up a treatment used by Queen Cleopatra?  For centuries, clay masks have been used to clean and rejuvenate skin.  Clay powder can be mixed with mineral water or you can purchase an inexpensive clay mask at your local drugstore to achieve the same results!

Check out why clay facial masks are such a good idea. I’ve been experimenting with masks for over a year now, and am close to releasing my own product, so I’m very aware of how much good they can do for your skin. I’d add an additional benefit to the ones listed in the excellent post I’ve quoted (and do click on the above link) – and that is a mask’s potential brightening effect on the complexion.

Essential U Blog: The Dangers of Dictating Legislation on Belief Systems & Fear

August 2nd, 2011

It has been said that those that don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.  Such is the case with the efforts of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CFSC) and the Environmental Working Groups (EWG) efforts to shape regulations and laws based on fear.  They have a complete lack of science and understanding of the cosmetic industry.  Out of either pure distortion of facts or ignorance the CFSC and EWG have forced upon our industry another fight for the very existence of our businesses with H.R. 2359, The Safe Cosmetics Act 2011.

Check out this post if you are interested in freedom of choice in cosmetics and skin care, and if you want your choices to be informed by science, and not by scare-mongering. There is enough fear and craziness in government already. We do not need any more of it.
