Beauty ingredients invigorate fair trade

Cosmetics have not only encouraged the growth of existing fair trade options like sugar, tea, and olive oil, but also introduced luscious offerings like shea butter and baobab oil to the growing fair trade industry, says Maya Spaull, director of new category innovation at Fair Trade USA.

It’s great to see the spread of the Fair Trade movement. The shea butter I use in my moisturizer is a case in point. It comes from a women’s collective in west Africa, and I love the fact that the women who harvest and churn the butter are getting a decent price for their work – their product is sooo good.
