Do you use “Brazilian Blowout” type products to straighten your hair? If you do, you need to understand that some of these products work by using high levels of a chemical called formaldehyde to rearrange the bonds in your hair. While low levels of formaldehyde are safe, inhalation of high levels of formaldehyde gas can cause irritation and has been linked to cancer. Therefore, formaldehyde containing products should only be used in well ventilated areas and people who have extended exposure, like hair stylists, should be particularly careful.
