Comedogenic Chart

May 4th, 2011

The reason why coconut oil is used in skin care is due to the ability of coconut oil to break down harmful free radicals in the body, which prematurely age the skin and destroy the underlying tissues. With acne, aging, sensitive and couperose skins, the skin tissue requires as much protection as possible. Remember that Coconut oil is rich in capric and lauric acid, which are 2 antimicrobial agents that can actually help acne!

Here’s a really helpful article from Essential U. We hear about “non-comedogenic” ingredients all the time, but do you know what “non-comedogenic” really means, and what the implications are for your skin type? It’s not totally straightforward. For instance, individual ingredients behave differently when they are combined with each other. And that’s only one of the factors to consider. Check out the article to learn more.

Skin Care: All about Exfoliation

May 3rd, 2011

The average human generates a new layer of skin every two to four weeks. Exfoliation removes the outer layer or the dead skin cells to reveal the newer skin beneath. This shedding of the outer layer (exfoliation) helps to unclogs pores, keeps skin clean, and reduce acne breakouts.

Here’s a good article about exfoliation. I prefer to use a natural exfoliant, and am not a fan of chemical peels. However, I do exfoliate twice a week. Gentle does it, is the rule! Here is more on how to exfoliate.

Work out on a vibrating plate

May 2nd, 2011

HEALTH is wealth. Even if your schedule is tight, 15 minutes a day with the Power Plate my3 can increase your fitness level.

This compact machine can be used at home and is suitable for users of all ages and fitness levels. Using the principles of Acceleration Training, the my3 stimulates the body’s natural response to vibration as it sends waves of energy through the body, activating contractions of the muscle multiple times per second. This gives the body a good workout.

I’ve used a TurboSonic vibration platform for years. A friend has one and lets me drop by every day. It’s marvelous. Highly recommended. I have friends who have seen chronic conditions fade away once they got started. Great for the overall energy level, too.

Should Men Wear Makeup?

April 29th, 2011

How we have viewed the appearance of a man is beginning to change. Not only are men dabbling more with hair products and hair styles, more men are getting manicures and pedicures as well. In fact, they are even removing their body hair that used to be considered “manly.” Men have also started looking into cosmetics and beginning to wear makeup on a regular basis.

What do you think? Probably not lipstick or mascara. It’s definitely manly to moisturize, I’d say. But where is the metro-sexual thing going? Are you ready to share your cosmetics with your man?

How to Use Toner and Moisturizer

April 29th, 2011

Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt. Always choose a mild and alcohol-free toner. Harsh toners dehydrate skin due to which skin may become oilier. Rosewater is the best natural toner. It helps to keep skin fresh and balances the pH levels. People with oily skin can use Witch Hazel as a toner.

If you use witch hazel, be sure it is free of alcohol. Most witch hazel extract contains 14% alcohol, and that is way too much for extra dry skin. I use alcohol-free witch hazel in my natural facial toner, along with organic rose and orange waters, and other botanicals that support healthy, smooth skin. The most immediate benefit of using a toner every day is the reduction in pore size. You should see it right away.
