My most recent favorite is from Bookpage.com who described the Beauty Brains as “an unexpectedly entertaining cohort of cosmetic scientists.” I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a cohort before! And somehow the idea of being “unexpectedly entertaining” sounds better to me than just being plain old “entertaining.”
Here’s a site to follow – cohort or not, smart and witty makes them a fun read.

Laughing is one of the easiest, most effective, and certainly, most enjoyable ways to improve your health. Laughing your way to better health is no joke! There’s plenty of research to back it up. Studies have shown that laughter boosts endorphins, decreases stress hormone levels and strengthens the immune system.
This looks like a lot of fun. Sign me up!

Despite what cosmetic marketers want you to think, there’s nothing special about cellulite. It’s just fat. Every woman has fat. The average body fat percentage of women is about 20-30%.
Cellulite is the description given to the appearance of fat that has become dimpled, much like the surface of an orange peel. This can show through skin, particularly where it is thin, like on the hips and upper thighs.
I’ve found that being careful about the fat that I eat has had a big effect on cellulite. I cook with coconut oil or ghee, and I use organic extra virgin olive oil in my salad every day. That’s it. Since I started this approach to fat, I’ve pretty much done away with cellulite.

Do you use “Brazilian Blowout” type products to straighten your hair? If you do, you need to understand that some of these products work by using high levels of a chemical called formaldehyde to rearrange the bonds in your hair. While low levels of formaldehyde are safe, inhalation of high levels of formaldehyde gas can cause irritation and has been linked to cancer. Therefore, formaldehyde containing products should only be used in well ventilated areas and people who have extended exposure, like hair stylists, should be particularly careful.
Here’s something to watch out for.
Generally speaking, I’m not a fan of the scare-mongering about cosmetics. I use organic products because I find they work better, not because I’m afraid of synthetic chemicals. But some are definitely to be avoided, and not just ingredients that dry out the skin. This post by Beauty Brains highlights some cases in point.

The barrier properties are very dependent on a particular structure of the oils in the skin and these can be disrupted by too much of some of the ingredients of cleansers, toners and moisturisers.
Yes, according to Colin. The trick is to educate yourself about the products you use so as to avoid harsh ingredients, plus to not over-use even the mildest products.

Dove recently unveiled its latest campaign, and it hinges on the idea that your armpits are ugly. Dove Ultimate Go Sleeveless is supposed to give women “softer, smoother underarms in just five days”—in ads for the product, which Stephen Colbert calls a “breakthrough shame-o-vation,” women cut the sleeves off their tops with joyful expressions, as if they’ve been liberated from a terrible scourge.
On and on the BS rolls. Here’s a good reason not to use Dove!

Our skin changes drastically as we get older, and our usual skincare routine may need a little kick in the pants to get our cells singing. That is where the serum step comes in. Most of us have our cleansing, toning and moisturizing down, but by adding a fantastic age defying serum you’re pulling out the big guns in defense of the aging process.
There may be serums out there that work. Personally, I have not found one. The ting I would add first to the cleansing, toning, moisturizing trifecta is exfoliating. A good natural exfoliant can works absolute wonders, and really really quickly. Lot cheaper than serums, too.

As basic as it is, a good moisturizer, rich in vitamins is crucial for a radiant complexion. Skin craves nutrients to look and feel its best and as skin ages, the right blend of nutrients becomes even more critical for maintaining a beautiful glow.
Actually, moisturizing is way more important and effective than all the serums and special creams combined. A really good organic moisturizer will take the place of most of the products people use and do a better job, in a fraction of the time, and for a whole lot less expense.
